24 bit & 96 kHz FLAC

Post by yekk10 » Fri Aug 11, 2023 7:23 am

Hi there,

Just reacting to the multiple OBZEN requests here... Those releases are so huge...
Is it worth it :?: Seems to me marketing bullshit, especially for old band/arstists..

If somebody can provide two tracks to hear the difference, that would be great.

Feel free to share your opinion here :)

It's just a gimmick in my opinion.
Without proper audio equipment you most likely won't hear much (if any) difference compared to a normal 16bit FLAC version.

I do not collect those 24bit releases as they are stupidly large (neither will I fill those type of reqs).

No, it's not a gimmick. And insinuating old recordings sound worse than modern releases is just ignorant.

You just need audiophile equipment to hear the difference. Do you know what that word means?

Did you even read my post?

It's just a gimmick in my opinion. <- My opinion, everyone has one.

Nowhere did I say old recordings are worse than modern releases ...

I don't collect OBZEN either. Too big and pointless imo. I can hear just fine

I can understand the need of extra quality for mastering stage, but for us, end-user, 16 bit 48kHz seems fine.

According to:
[External Link Removed for Guests]
  • Musical instruments produce sound within the range of 40 Hz to about 16 KHz
  • Human hearing tends to drop off sharply somewhere between 16 and 20 KHz, usually toward the low end of that range
  • Human hearing sensitivity peaks at 1 or 2 KHz, and drops from there. Children and young people under 20 years old can't hear above about 20 KHz at all, and this upper limit decreases with age.
And I don't know what is proper audio equipment... How the audio equipment receives the flac data.

I was replying to OP. He made those comments except the gimmick one. It seems like he never heard of audiophile gear. DAC, pre-amp, amp, high-end speakers, thousands of dollars cables, master clock, headphones worth more than a PC, etc...

Ok I understand now.
Apologies.

Expensive cables, some are a scam (like gold plated HDMI/USB) .. but good quality audio cable can indeed be very expensive.
