This is something tricky. Last week on the forum, iDF releases have been banned (which despite the fact that is an ex irc group, made lots of good releases, even though in 320k format). The same did not happen for other irc or p2p group, despite the 4. rule "no NON-SCENE audio". So a clarification is needed, because the options are to rehabilitate iDF or to ban all irc and p2p groups such as EOS, ER, iFF, PLB etc...

Aside from this, this topic is just to sort things out, the decision of what to keep here and what to avoid is up to @euphoricvocals

Do you consider NUKED releases still as scene release? Just to double-check what you wrote about MCG. On my pre sources, more than 95% of the MCG releases have been nuked. With a certain point of view, you definately could say that this is not a scene group, because most times they dont play by the rules - or the other way around: there are P2P groups that are able to follow the scene rules better than this group is (as you also stated in your post).
They can be treated differently. I personally also collect nuked releases for my collection, but I know people who don't want it. However, regarding the MCG, I only wrote that they are a scene group, cause they pred their rels according to the scene rules, although the rels themselves don't meet them, so everyone can include them in your own collection or not. But from my point of view, they cannot be compared to eg. funteek, who generally operated in a different area and purpose. Even if there are P2P groups that are able to follow the scene rules better than some scenes.

So if i get you right on that:
If I understood correctly the rules on this forum, I suppose it would be like that. But of course this "nonscene hierarchy" is completely relative, everyone can see it and treat it as they like, it's only to simplify the topic we're talking about.

I personally dont prefer to know more detail about the release group (for both, P2P and scene groups). So I would not seperate between a "one man show" and a 2+ person group. I also would not seperate between the different P2P network (this would also mean, that you need know the background of a certain release group). I'm personally not able to know what is happening in the torrent/webwarez area - but im pretty sure that there is a lot going on - not only on IRC/NNTP, but also on the WEB.
In turn, I like to know what I have in my collection and where it's from. But of course that is just my subjective approach. As I wrote above, I don't want to separate it somehow, I'm writing it only as information, if I have any.

I would prefer to seperate between Scene/Scene-a-like/non-Scene-a-like/crap+fake and maybe move the red line to not only inlcude "real scene releases", but also to somewhat "acceptable" Scene-a-like releases (rules may be: somewhat acceptable naming of the release, having a nfo and sfv - just as an example).
In the case of my own collection, I personally use the same principle as you wrote. That's why I have so many different p2p releases and I know a little about them. But on the other hand, I understand and respect the rules that are here and since they are, I think it's worth separating what is what so that there are no mistakes.

Same here. There are releases from some groups that are really good quality and fill holes left by other groups (especially for early '90 singles that have not been released in any form or were released in not-up-to-the-standard quality...160k for example or were only partly released on XDCC or for some other reasons the original release was not nuked despite being bad...for example Money_Penny_-_Love_In_The_Night-Vinyl-2002-iDC. This release has only 2 extended versions while vinyl has 4 versions including 2 radio edits. The release was not nuked but has not been released in any other form since then), so I also have a collection of some good xdcc/p2p releases but I am in the process of finishing the axing of crap (funteek, hopsis etc) and replacing them with something else.

personally if release has "official" alternate to lets say EOS or ER and similar early 2000s irc groups, i want that one
but if only EOS or ER or DDJ and similar of specific release exists than i am perfectly fine with it being non-scene RELEASE (yet still with all the small files and stuff)

... but im only talking about mostly pre2005 "groups"... and occasionally pre2010

I haven't noticed this before... Where did this information come from? Are you sure? I don't know this group any closer, but looking at [External Link Removed for Guests] they seem like a scene group. Unless you know something more about it.

Do you have access to some old internal predb on IRC? I'm asking cause if so, maybe I would have a few questions about a couple of rls names in time... I have even been wondering recently if there is anyone active on the forum who has access to something more than public predbs.

@Hunter:

In the days of direct-to-web releases (no cd, only digital store), I am seeing some strange releasing groups behaviour: only extended gets released, or there are two different releases for radio edit and extended version (and maybe some other versions not included).
Is this "legal" for scene rules? Shouldn't be released the entire single, and not a single release for a single track?
